Why is it that there are several columns in gossip mags dedicated to Fergie eating out at Taco Bell? Or Reese Writherspoon shopping at Target? Why are people so fascinated with celebs doing “normal” everyday activities like you and i?

I bet you seven virgins that if Reese wasn’t an A list celeb, people wouldn’t give two shits where she bought her toilet paper. But, because she has melted the hearts of millions across the globe, people care, and they love her more for being “normal”.

The other day, after downing some h2 on the rocks, this girl showed me her deformed pinky. and i couldn’t help but wanna just kiss it, suck it, and tell her that if she didn’t take it away from my face i was going to get a serious —–.

A new study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology indicates that dating someone with a wandering eye isn’t necessarily such a bad thing. Pressuring them not to look might lead to more problems than actually allowing them to look.

Researchers found:

Just as people want jobs they cannot have, salaries they cannot earn, and cars they cannot afford, people may desire attractive alternatives more and desire their current relationship partner less when they are placed in situations that limit their ability to attend to attractive alternatives.

The study also concluded that people who were prevented from gazing at attractive members of the opposite sex were actually more likely to remember them, not less. Read the study here. Has a wandering eye affected your relationship? How did you handle it?

Stir in 1 chance encounter with someone who’s magnetic and has a charisma that draws people in. They’re sexy, funny, mysterious, a real charmer. They will be your worst nightmare, but shhh! You don’t know that yet. Be socially vulnerable. Need a friend to run errands with or watch TV hungover on a Sunday. This person fits the bill perfect. They’re willing to be that someone you can call and do nothing with. Bingo.

Marinate 3 good months of friendship. Everything has to be special before it can get marred, before it can become the worst version of itself. Have the kind of nights together  that create long-lasting memories, and endless remember when’s? Feel relieved that you’ve found a friend who wants to be your other half. You had been feeling disconnected and now you’re plugged into something real.

Sprinkle 6 mean comments from your friend, the kind of comments that make your neck constrict and have you questioning everything about yourself. Oh no. The honeymoon is over. They know you well enough now to realize  you have a jelly backbone. Wonder if this is them using it to their advantage. Wonder if they’ll be putting you down on a regular basis. Wonder what you’ve gotten yourself into.

Pour and stir 1 new dynamic. Your friend has begun to be manipulative and make you feel badly about yourself daily. There has been a rapport established between the two of you that may be hazardous to your mental health.  It’s constant competition now which has forced you to become something you aren’t. Suddenly there’s tension about good grades and crushes when all you wanna do is sit on your couch with them and watch endless hours of television. But the shift has been too great. Your friend has morphed it into something completely different and now there’s no going back to lazy hungover days and exciting nights. You’ve been punked.

Drizzle 50 moments of disbelief. Do everything your friend tells you to do—things that are inconvenient, disrespectful, and just plain bullshit. Experience an odd mixture of invigoration and exhaustion. Walk away from every hangout session feeling fatigued, but also wanting the next kick. Who is this person and what have they done to your sense of self?!

Chop up 1 long epiphany. This person is FUCKING CRAZY and maybe a sociopath. They don’t understand the true meaning of friendship, and you won’t be the one to teach them. Sometimes the only way to build up your self-worth again is to have someone take it away from you every day. Start inching your way out of the door.

Put 1 last night on top. This ends everything and kills the relationship for good. There’s nothing different about this night than the others except you’re finally able to see things for what they are and have the power to walk away. Say goodbye as if nothing’s wrong. Never answer his phone calls again. Never give an explanation. What would be the point? They’d be incapable of understanding your points. To them, this is a good friendship. It works out great for them!

Add 1 giant sigh of relief. Feel like you had been experiencing everything as if there was a dirty film over your eyes. It’s like you’ve woken up from one long nightmare and now you don’t want to go to sleep ever again.

Garnish with 8000 pieces of self-respect. Be in disbelief over how you could have ever been in a friendship like that. Relate to the Madonna lyrics, “I’m not your bitch. Don’t hang your shit on me!” in a new profound way. Resolve to never befriend a crappy person ever again.

A study published this month by Australian researchers finds that both men and women are unhappy by the frequency of sex they’re having (or not having) in long-term relationships.

“The real issue here, I think, is that couples are not finding enough time for sex,’’ said Dr. Smith. “I don’t think you can keep forcing more and more activities in people’s lives and still expect them to take the time it takes to have sex, let alone good-quality sex.”

Stir in 1 chance of encounter with people who think you’re awesome. They like you, you like them, instant connection. This relationship is godsend compared to the last ones —it has meaning, they are the ones who you’ve been looking for, bingo.

Chop up three dozen memorable nights where you’ve spent hours planning a  fun-filled night. Everyone meets you at happy hour for sushi and saki, all is going according to plan. After three hours, you tell everyone to drink back at your place. Others are tired of just sitting and drinking, and suggest dancing. How dare they?? They have no right, you’ve put so much thought into the whole evening. Call them out, have them question their choices and persuade them that going back to your place is ideal, for everyone.

Marinate 3 months of good times. You are now officially in and part of the group, one of the amigos, hombres, homies, bros. Get comfortable and unleash the real you. Chug a 40oz, get stupid, rock out with your new friends. Have the kinds of nights together that create long lasting memories, lots of “remember when’s?” Feel relieved that you’ve found a new group of  friends who like you.

Sprinkle A MILLION ways to have even more fun. Become belligerent with no regard towards others: pee inside of a church, fight your friends for attempting to stop you, then the cop for interfering. Realize that deep down your friends are just insecure and can’t get down like you can. They actually have no self identity, you on the other hand add spunk, charisma, and character to the group. What would they do without you??

Drizzle 50 moments of venting about your friends.  They were being silly the night before so it’s natural to talk about them. Delve in deeper and ask seven other people how your mutual friends can be so stupid beyond belief, suggest to everyone it’s because of  their mommy and daddy issues. Know that you can be a conniving pompous asshole of a snake, but don’t care because people can either love you or hate you.

Serve up a bowl confusion. Ask yourself why your friends won’t return your calls, wonder why they all banded together and are staying away from you like the fucking plague. Look back in the mirror and ask yourself why your life has gone to shits. Know why your social life is once again fucked,  but be in denial anyway.

My Personal Experience With Bullying

When I was in first grade, me and my cousin (who was a year older) were both chillen on the play ground. We were playin’ our favorite make believe game, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles . . . all was cool till our bodies were all of a sudden eclipsed by someone’s shadow. It was some random fifth grader who decided to tease my cousin’s name, ” Ha Ha Raphael (that was his name), the Ninja Turtle!”  Now, ironically, as much as he loved The Ninja Turtles, he hated it when someone called him that.

Anyway, since at the age of three, I grew up watching Kung Fu movies from Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. I watched those movies so much that it brain-washed me into thinking I was a ninja attending school in America. I was obsessed with doing somersaults, round-house kicks, and judo chops, and was convinced that if I had to, I could fly from wall to wall  throwing ninja stars while looking like a total boss.

Coming from a no bullshit family, I came to my cousins rescue —and together, we joined forces and took on that 5th grader. Needless to say we got our asses whooped . . .  and was sent to the principal’s office the following morning.

Now, I’m able to laugh at this story now because it’s just a natural process of growing up, right? However, I definitely believe that a big problem with bullying is that parents confuse the line where kids are just being kids, versus when kids are going too far.

No More Fun & Games

I was working out the other day and caught a glimpse of a hidden camera show that immediately struck my nerves. In fact, while watching this program I wanted to jump inside that TV screen to kick ass and take names.

Imagine three teenage girls on a laptop, writing on a classmate’s Facebook page, posting comments and recording videos. But on a closer listen, it’s apparent that these girls are anything but friendly: ”No, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more disgusting. I would die if I was that ugly,” says one.

Is this just another case of “kids being kids,” or something much worse?

“Guys, did you see her crying in the bathroom the other day when we were making fun of her? It was hilarious,” another says as cafe patrons watch, doing nothing.

The tone quickly evolves from hurtful comments, to public humiliation. One of the girls tells the others, “Did I tell you what I did the other day? We were in gym class in the locker room and she was wearing granny panties…I got a picture of it!”

“Send that to her Facebook!” another excitedly adds.

These mean girls then record a video saying, “Hey Janis, we’re at this restaurant. We’re just gonna take this ugly poll. We just want you to know that we’re not the only ones that think you’re ugly. We’re gonna ask the people around us. ”

They then turn to a nearby table to get people’s opinions of the victim . . . how do you think people reacted?

Luckily, the victim’s Facebook page is a fake, and the girls were actresses, but this scenario is one that is all too familiar with teens all throughout America. It’s a problem that has only recently reached national levels of concern.

Unfortunately, it took tragedies such as the suicides of middle-schoolers Ryan Halligan and Megan Meier to bring the issue into the public eye. And yet only six states have enacted anti-bullying laws that include the term cyber-bullying.

Will It Ever End?

In an ideal world, yes… but in reality, we have among us people who get a kick out of humiliating others, who take pride in hurting others both emotionally and physically and who only feel comfortable when they know they have put people down so low that they feel they have achieved something. I used to feel sorry for bullies, but really, it’s too much. It has gone too far. Bullying is pathetic, idiotic and just plain sad. Why can’t people just grow up and respect each other for who and what they are?

I write about this partly because it has come to my attention repeatedly over the last few months.

If you, or anybody you know is a victim of bullying, please don’t hesitate to get help – be it a loved one, a teacher, a friend or a website (there are many supportive networks out there). Bullying is wrong and nobody deserves to be made to feel rubbish or scared… nobody.

Ryan Halligan’s Story

OKCupid analyzed 82 million messages sent by members of their free online dating site to form their conclusions, focusing on their four largest single-race groups: whites, asians, blacks, and latinos.

According to their data: “white people actually prefer themselves the least, but right now there’s just so many of them. It’s interesting to think what things would be like if the shoe was on the other foot; if another race outnumbered whites 19:1.”

There isn’t a night that goes by where I don’t see a guy, after well-meaning guy getting shot down by a chick at the bar. In the same breath, there are women also stomping home alone every night with defeat in their eyes—knowing damn well their biological clocks are on its last few ticks. Marriage minded men and women all over America are concerned they’ll always play supporting cast to a wedding, rather than the stars of one.

What’s the deal here?

The fact is, most singles are barking up the wrong tree, howling after impossible prey they’ll never-ever catch.

Impossible prey? Wrong trees? Howling? What the fudge-packer are you talking about, Parker?

Well, let me explain:

Everyone wants to get the best deal in life, No?

Fellas, it’s pretty much impossible for us to keep our eyes off the hottest piece of ass in the bar, am I right? We want so badly that effing TEN standing by the bar, though we’re getting a little tired of having our egos bruised every time we attempt to say hello. We then begin to question and second guess ourselves: Is it her, the stupid bitch? OR is it me? It can’t be me, I’m awesome . . . right?

Seriously, I want you to look at yourself in the mirror—a good hard look. Then ask yourself, “If I were an attractive girl (the kind of girl whom I would like to date) . . . would I want to FUCK ME?

Luckily, for women, it’s a little easier for you to go after men who may be slightly more attractive than you. Go ahead (you can cheat), throw on some makeup, get all dolled up, do that “hand on the hip” thing that girls do whenever they know their about to be looked at or photographed; then oogle yourself objectively. Rate yourself on that scale from 1-10. If you need help, ask your closest friend (one who won’t bullshit you). Are you a three, six, eight, better? Now, with that number in mind, look at the kind of dude/gal you’re trying to score with. Rate him or her on the same scale.

If your ideal partner is one or two points within your range, go for it. If not, forget it. Studies show you’re wasting your time.

Do you enjoy sex?

Studies also show that couples similar in attractiveness are more affectionate towards each other. Psychologists observed couples at parties and singles gathering spots, and they found that whether the couple were two “beauties” or two “uglies,” they seemed happier and played footsies much more if they were of similar attractiveness.

In fact:

-60% of similar couples (1-2 pt. difference in the 1-10 scale) couldn’t keep their hands off each other.

-46% of moderately similar (3-4 point difference) couples often held hands.

-Only 22% of couples who were “scales apart (5-9 point difference)” barely did any touching at all.

It seems that birds of a feather, do indeed, flock together—at least when it comes to showing affection.

-But What About Personality, Money, and Status?

Good Question.

Austrian psychiatrist/neurologist, Sigmund Freud, set out to get the real skinny on love and sexuality. After doing numerous surveys and experiments, he broke into the human mind and found some rather unromantic facts about love.

He found that true happiness with our desired counterpart isn’t based upon what general western culture considers “love.” There’s this belief that total giving of one’s self, and trust alone, will carry lovers throughout the ages. Wrong. This idea alone couldn’t be more further from the truth.

Studies suggest that the recipe for everlasting love is everything mentioned above and then some. The missing component? Treating love more like a business, much like an arranged marriage. People who get into arranged marriages recognize that marriage is no different than two entrepreneurs joining forces to build a unified empire. An empire consisting of a home, kids, college fund, retirement fund, etc.

And each person brings in their own equity to the table.

We all have what’s known as “our own equity.” Everyone has a set value, everything has a price. As with any product, a person’s value can be subjective, though generally, the world agrees on what’s a good catch and what’s not.

In the world of car trading, there are top notch “whips” and there are  busted-ass “hoopties.”

When most of us look for cars, we judge the value of a car upon it’s brand, the condition, it’s age, the mileage, etc. Are humans really so different, I mean, really?

The individual (as well as the all in-compassing) qualities of a car affect it’s overall sales price. If you are trading a car that was produced in 2011 in exchange for a car made in 1970, the one from the 70’s better offer other superior qualities to make it a fair trade.

Everything and everybody has a type of equity value on the open market, and everybody wants to get the best deal possible in love—as well as in life.

The Equity Of Love states that the more qualities you bring to the table, the better you will do in love. More specifically, the better the assets from both parties even out, the more likely it is to progress to marriage.

What are these assets I speak of?  What currency “buys” a good partner?

The Equity of Love lists six elements which are considered assets on the open market when lovers go relationship shopping:

1.      Physical appearance – beauty
2.      Material possessions – wealth
3.      Social standing or popularity – prestige/power
4.      Information or knowledge – intelligence
5.      Social graces, manners, charisma – personality
6.      Inner nature – character

Researchers tell us that in the happiest relationships, partners are more or less equal in each of the above categories. If not, their qualities balance each other out across the board.

As an example, take category number one, physical appearance. As mentioned earlier, studies all over the world show that men and women usually wind up marrying people whom are just about as attractive as they are.

I even tested these findings myself. For nearly two weeks, everywhere I went—the movies, the mall, parties, clubs, restaurants—I watched husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends. On a scale of one to ten, I rated their appearance. Surprisingly, never were they more than two points apart! Try it.

Research also tell us if a couple is not equal in the same category, usually their assets across the list even out.

For example:

How often, walking down the street, have you passed a gorgeous woman on the arm of a short, fatty, much older man?

What was your first thought, don’t lie!
That’s right. You and the rest of the world is thinking the same thing:

“He must be rich as fuck!”

Or we see a good lookin’ guy hand in hand with a very plain average looking Jane, we all think to ourselves, “She must have a great personality.”

That’s the equity (or car-trading) principle at work. It can’t be denied, don’t even try.

Good-looks, lots of money, and high social status are all in affect when building the equity of love.

Back in the 1930s several Oakland, California educators observed fifth and sixth grade girls prancing on the playground. They rated the little girls according to their looks. About twenty years later, a sociologist got hold of the results of the old study and tracked down the young women to find out what kinds of husbands they had married. The researcher found that the prettier the girl, the “better” she had done in securing a man.

The more attractive the girls had gotten, the richer and more powerful their husbands were. The less attractive girls, sadly (though, not surprisingly), didn’t fare as well.

Does this mean our face is our fortune? Heck No.

Fortunately, physical aesthetics are not the only currency in which we “buy” love. A kick-ass personality, class, and knowledge will also help score you points.

But before you go chasing waterfalls of drop-dead gorgeous, filthy rich, prince and princess’, you may want to reconsider. Why? Because balanced benefits makes us happy campers, especially in the long-run. Ultimately, people are more content when their assets equal out.

Don’t believe me?

I once knew a girl named Beth who married a man named Mike. Beth was very gorgeous, but she wasn’t too smart. After a couple of years in the relationship, Beth got pregnant and started letting her self go. Mike started treating her different, he stopped helping her around the house with chores, he didn’t compliment her anymore, and he stopped having sex with her—poor girl had no idea what had happened.

This is not surprising considering the equity of love—it would say that Mike was subconsciously restoring balance. Researchers analyzing their changing relationship would say that when Mike and Beth got together, Beth brought physical beauty into the relationship, whereas  Mike brought a good nature (character). These are both tangible assets. If her beauty fizzles, so does the asset he brings to the table. Mike didn’t kick Beth out that instant—he still loved her, of course. Subconsciously though, Mike is simply balancing the score by liquidating a few of his pleasing habits.

Now, what if Beth wasn’t so “smokin’ hot,” but simply “just plain cute” like Mike, as well as witty and smart and good natured. If this were the case, her assets would have balanced out naturally across the board, and she wouldn’t have been burdened with the chore of staying in shape, and she and Mike would have had a much more satisfying happy ending.

As much as we all would love to marry the Brad Pitts and Angelina Jolies of the world, it’s probably best that—just this once—we don’t get what we want. In short, try to aim for someone who matches you across the board in looks, wealth, power, intelligence, personality, and character. Do that and you’ll find yourself much happier—especially in the long run.

During the 2008 US Census, most Americans said they approved of racial or ethnic intermarriage. At least six of every 10 people checked “it would be fine.” But data gathered from online dating sites illustrates a different story between what people believe and how they behave.

“According to a new UC Berkeley study of one million online daters, cyberspace is just as segregated as the real world. When it comes to dating online, whites prefer whites, research reveals. More than 80 percent of whites — even the 48 percent of males and 28 percent of females who said they were indifferent to race — sent messages to whites and just three percent contacted blacks.”
